The #Balccon2k17 brought together IT security professionals and enthusiasts from all around the world. For the fifth year in Novi Sad, this was one of the biggest security events in Southest Europe. Dubbed “U CNT CTRL ME”, the event presented its philosophy right from the start: the use of knowledge to break barriers.

Like last year, the event offered talks and workshops and advertised a central makerspace with various gadgets and tools.

Some of these were really impressive, especially given the age of their makers:

I was there for a workshop on IOT, distributing tens of wireless temperature sensors to demo the technology and to raise awareness on its potential.

At the end of the workshop, several “Simple IOT” devices were ready to join the uRADMonitor network, contributing remote temperature measurements. The hardware details, the presentation and the source codes are available on Github.

Next I held a presentation on the Flying sniffer or how to do environmental monitoring using drones. You can see the presentation on Prezi here.

The Flying Sniffer is an ongoing project, but some first successful tests were already completed, you can checkout current progress in this demo video:

All in one, it was another great event, looking forward to the next editions!
