ParticipantA little note, not all Nokia 5110 displays and ethernet modules available on the web have the same pinout.
So is there perhaps a detailed BOM for these two items or links to a source with the correct pinouts for this project?
The displays on the red PCB with 2 pinheaders seem to be ok. The ENC28J60 ethernet modules seem to have many more varieties .
The ones sold as “mini ENC28J60” seem to have the correct pinouts, the bigger boards have the SPI connector 180 degrees turned. and some have a mirrored SPI pinout.
Also is it an option to use an arduino nano? Since many already have a few of those at hand, they are just as cheap as a Atmega328 chip and have a USB included. Not sure if the AVR .hex firmware is compatible to do this? Thats why I ask.

ParticipantI just had a look on Google street view, there seems to be no heavy industry in that area (if it is the correct spot where the monitor is) A few houses and a graveyard a little up the street and a little further a healthcenter. It seems a very nice neighborhood if you don’t mind the radiation levels…

ParticipantIsn’t this an area where Rolls-Royce is building nuclear submarine engines?
Maybe it is someone who works on a nuclear submarine who measures the radiation of his laundry? It’s not funny i know, these levels can’t be healthy.
I hope the person who set up this monitor can give us some information of what is causing these levels. Is there a way to add notes nest to the data? or to blocks of data?
Something like selecting a spike and add a note that explains the data.
In the long run then you have a memory of some events that can help to explain other events.uaneme
ParticipantMight it be an idea to push the data trough the tor network just to keep people safe who didn’t read the law books on the subject?
I wonder how the law rates a nose. I mean, if someone in Wyoming sets a fart free, will it be legal to smell it when it is not in your own house?
So you live in Wyoming and a stranger farts in your house then you may say WHAAAA that’s bad air!! But if you are in a cafe, and some stranger farts then you have to ignore it alltogether. after all you nose ‘collects data’ when it ‘registers’ the bad air.
😀And, what excuse does the NSA use when it is collecting data of everyone, including the ones living in Wyoming?
Privacy, and I hope that the future firmware with encryption is helping to provide more privacy for all of us and I’m sure everything is being done to respect everyones privacy.
I’m trying to understand the document, but I wonder how the law can forbid anyone to ‘smell for ionization’ or any other toxic stuff. Trespassing and making pictures of someones property is something different. Or is it just a matter of staying in public space?
It’s really a matter of how you read this. It really looks like it is illegal to investigate who is poisoning you, but the one who spreads the poison is protected by the law since you may not try to find out where the poison is coming from unless you take A LOT of effort to challenge the law and to figure out a way around the law to is killing you. This on it’s turn could take years, and you might be dead before you find the cause.
But using the TOR network would that be an option?

ParticipantThis article is from 2012, I don’t know the status of this project, and if you need deep pockets or not. But the idea of having one sensor that can sniff out many different chemicals just sounds like the ideal sensor for this project.

ParticipantHmmm, not sure if it can be done in a banner, but it would be nice to match the IP of the client to the nearest monitor near that IP and then include that image like you said.
Or, is it possible to generate that image included with a link back to the home page, that would make a seperate banner obsolete, but then everyone can add his local monitor data, (or any other monitor) to a website and automatically links back to uradmonitor.com
This will also do magic to the google ranking when more and more people link back. 🙂
AND you can see in your webstats from where all the images are loaded and how many people have viewed them.

ParticipantIs there already contact, or would it be an idea to get in touch with organisations like thisone:
http://www.radwaste.org/disposal.htm
I think it would be nice to have a link from that site to this site.

ParticipantI’m trying to figure out how that page is generated, or where it takes the location data of all the reactors.

ParticipantI meant these links:
Map all coordinates using OSM
https://tools.wmflabs.org/osm4wiki/cgi-bin/wiki/wiki-osm.pl?project=en&article=List_of_nuclear_reactorsMap up to 200 coordinates using Bing
https://tools.wmflabs.org/kmlexport?article=List_of_nuclear_reactors&redir=bingExport all coordinates as KML
https://tools.wmflabs.org/kmlexport?article=List_of_nuclear_reactorsExport all coordinates as GeoRSS
http://maps.bing.com/GeoCommunity.asjx?action=retrieverss&mkt=en&mapurl=http%3A%2F%2Ftools.wmflabs.org%2Fkmlexport%3Farticle%3DList_of_nuclear_reactorsExport all coordinates as GPX
http://tools.tripgang.com/kml2gpx/http%3A%2F%2Ftools.wmflabs.org%2Fkmlexport%3Farticle%3DList_of_nuclear_reactors?gpx=1Map all microformatted coordinates
http://maps.google.com/maps?q=http%3A%2F%2Fmicroform.at%2Fgeo%2Fhttp%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2FList_of_nuclear_reactorsPlace data as RDF
http://microform.at/?type=hcard-rdf&url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_nuclear_reactorsAccording to the wiki those links should contain a list of coordinates of (nearly) all nuclear reactors. I’m now playing around with it but i’m not quiet getting the expected results yet. 🙂

Participanthttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_nuclear_reactors
In the upper right box are a few links to files exported as OSM, KML, GeoRSS, etc. maybe they can be used or converted? If googles own data can be used that would seem to be most ideal. Assuming that Googles data is correct and up to date…
What is harder to find is info about:
– where radioactive waste is being stored.
– where nukes are stored. (do stored nukes actually radiate?) There are a few known missile bunkers. But only very few known storage bunkers. And then there is still the government that denies that there are still nukes being stored in the suspected bunkers.
– routes where radioactive source and waste material is being transportedIt’s a big challenge to actually figure out where radiation is coming from. When a powerplant leaks radiation they will always lie and cover up to try and stop panic, avoid claims, etc. And what part is natural radiation. This makes it very hard to sketch a picture of what is actually true.

ParticipantI was also having this thought. I did a little searching and came across this
http://googlemapsmania.blogspot.nl/2011/03/nuclear-power-plants-earthquake.html
http://maptd.com/map/earthquake_activity_vs_nuclear_power_plants/http://mashable.com/2011/08/18/google-maps-weather/ what about adding a button that can toggle on and off the weather layer? (wind directions and rain)
I also came across a googlemaps nuclear powerplant layer with pinned info about the year it was build, the amount of generated power etc.
Can’t find it right now but i will add a link as soon as i find it again.
EDIT: http://www.theguardian.com/environment/interactive/2012/mar/08/nuclear-power-plants-world-mapAnd i’m sure there will also be a list of militairy sites where nukes are stored or suspected to be stored. And a list of sites where nuclear waste is being stored?
combining all of the above could then paint a nice picture if/how uRAD readings are related to weather and nearby (or not so nearby) powerplants.
Not sure if there is also data of radiation from outer space (sunspots), ozon layer, and the earths magnetic field. But I guess there are not enough monitors online yet to actually make sense of that data on the larger scale.

ParticipantHi everyone, i go by the nickname of Uaneme.
I joined the network as a kind of sponsoring funded from advertisement funds that I collected form my websites. My sites are not for profit but hey why not collect a little money on the side and use it to support interesting projects like this one. 🙂
My home is in the Netherlands and there wasn’t any uRAD monitor near me yet, so the choice was easy to make. Remembering Chernobyl, and not so long ago Fukushima, and seeing how how the official reports where presented by the Government as: “Don’t worrie, you are safe” I’m hoping a project like this will provide humanity a more honest view of the state of this planet.
Maybe more scary, but at least without corrupt data. Humans deserve to know the truth.
I hope this project will grow with many more environmental sensors. It would be nice to see this project linked with weather data. And eventually future upgrades with for instance carbon monoxide, magnetic field, toxins that can be measured etc. I hope Radu has the time for that.
Well, enough options for the future. 🙂 -
