    The ‘Windscale Piles’ filtered exhaust vents on the Sellafield nuclear site in Cumbria, UK, are being removed as part of decommissioning. They were widely criticized as unnecessary when built, but averted a nuclear disaster when the reactor at Windscale Pile One went on fire.
