Hello guys just waiting for my Smoggie PM should be arriving today and as far as I know I will have the first in Jersey (9×5 mile) Island in English Channel). Depending on wind direction we can sometimes end up with dense areas of pollution coming up from the near continent so expecting interesting data.

Can I ask if it actually matters whether the unit is inside or outside. Thinking about what it is calibrated for, household dust shouldn’t be an issue and I can’t think of anything else indoors that would be much smaller than that. I have the WiFi version and was going to attach a suitable solar panel to a power bank so it charges the power bank during the day and then the unit feeds off the power bank at night but thought I would ask anyway.

Glad to be part of your project.

I think the main issue now is that I cannot stay connected for very long. As mentioned before when I can get on 192..168. Etc the config page shows dns and ip not set. Is this the issue and how can I resolve please?

    Hi Matthew,

I think the unit should be mounted outdoors. It comes in a nice case which makes it easy to put in a place where the sun will not heat it up.

I’m not sure what the problem is with the IP, though. Just sign it up to your Wifi network, your router/access point wll give it IP and DNS addresses automatically. You need to reboot the Smoggie to get the new settings to work.
If you want to have a fixed IP, which is convenient if you want to routinely check the unit, then set the Smoggies MAC to a fixed IP on your access point.

I’ve got my SMOGGIE a few weeks ago, and it was easy to set it up that way.
    It is mounted outside.

    Cheers,

Ah cheers mate all worked like a charm!!!

    Thank you so much.

As for housing outside, it gets very blowy on my balcony so I am gonna have to come up with an outer housing to make sure USB socket, power etc stay dry!

    Thanks again 🙂
