ParticipantHey guys, I have my own network enabled geiger counter and would like to contribute to this most excellent project. My counter uses a SBM-20 tube and is powered over 24v passive PoE. Three supercapacitors ensure ultra-smooth supply for the meter. A small linux box on my network polls the geiger counter every minute and posts the value to a web page.
If it would be possible to post data to your project using standard HTTP WGETs that would be ideal. I have similarly been posting data from various sensors around my property to Weather Underground and it works well.

That’s my thought on an API for the network, but really I’m flexible.

ParticipantI’m looking very much forward to such an API, too, because I recently set up a Geiger counter based on an SBM-20 tube. The Geiger counter is hooked up to an XBee device that transmits measurements every second. The receiver XBee is connected to a computer that generates graphs such as the one attached to this post.
It would make sense to transmit these measurements to the uRadMonitor project, too.

KeymasterThanks wolf, I hope to have the API ready as soon as possible. I will post all details here, and in a dedicated blog post as well.

ParticipantSounds great! My Geiger counter is already reporting happily via an XBee connection in our garage and will be moved outside once I get around to drilling a hole in the wall for a power supply cable. It makes sense to report the findings to your web site, too.

KeymasterJust an update, to let you know that the server API is changing to a REST model, and so will allow easy configuration for any custom units. So we’re getting closer to what you all have requested.

ParticipantGreat news, because I was mentally preparing for a REST interface. 🙂

ParticipantDo you have an approximate time frame for the completion of the API?
If you need some beta testing, I’ll be happy to participate.

KeymasterCurrently the new website is under development. This will also offer the API discussed here. As an estimate I’d say one more month if all goes well.

ParticipantHave you had a chance to make progress?

ParticipantYeah I just gave up and bought one. Maybe I’ll relocate the one that I built in the garage or something.

KeymasterHello Wolf,
I was caught with this https://hackaday.io/project/4977-portable-environmental-monitor . Managed to finish the beta, but barely as its just before their deadline. I should be able to redirect some of my time to the API modifications.
Wish there was more time.
