What are peoples thoughts on the colour of the markers on the map? I would expect/hope to see green 100% of the time indicating normal background levels for the area.
I would expect red to be something out of the ordinary.
Good initiative. Let’s see what can be improved.
Here’s how they are doing it in Finland: http://www.stuk.fi/sateily-ymparistossa/sateilytilanne/en_GB/sateilytilanne/
I think the current marker color is fine, you also want to see some background spectrum resolution as is the case currently.
If everything remained green all the time (unless hazard red) then you going to possibly miss the leading trends. Also fine resolution could also give you a clue somethings up if the levels are not matching what would normally be considered normal for the environment.
I happen to have stumbled across https://atlas.ripe.net/results/maps/comparative-dns-root-rtt whilst working today. So, it’s just finer increments which may be better.
Thank you , I was planning to add a colour gradient. Suggestion added to the todo list.
If it’s any help, here is some code from one of my projects. Takes start and end hex colours and the number of colour steps you want to create. Then you can use steps(step) to get the hex colour code for that step.
Hehe, I wrote a linear color divider like this myself some time ago, but in C. Thanks for the code!
Any chance of getting a basic key on the map page that indicates what the pin colours mean? It may help casual or new people to understand what they mean.
Hi Ed,
I could add a quick legend right now, but the entire website will be completely changed soon, and several improvements will take care of this request as well.
So better let’s go with the newer version instead.
