    Hey all,
    do you have technical ideas, how to detect and act on an incident?

    Example
    Detect: Two sensors within 500km rise out of “normal” (stddev).
    Act: Send an eMail to all, send Twitter

    I ask this because I think
    1) the network should act, but
    2) I’d understand if one tests his new sensor with grandfathers’ old luminous wristwatch.

    What kind of messages world you like?
    And what kind of values should trigger these messages?

    Not that you complain on false alarms at midnight with your family waiting for news in the basement all night long. 🙂

    I am interested in alerts.

    As a station owner, I would like to be alerted:
    (1) single station rise of stddev
    (2) station fails to report within 24 hours
    (3) A daily or weekly email report.
    (4) Daily or weekly email reports from stations near me, for comparison purposes.

    As a website user, I would like to be alerted:
    (1) A station I have selected, or stations within a geographical area, rises out of stddev.
    (2) A daily, weekly or monthly email report, of all stations worldwide that have risen out of stddev in the past 24 hours, week or month.
    The two items above could be a premium feature for website users that are not station owners.

    Hi,

    I agree with alien scones for both of his number (1) as alerts, with the second being more important to me.

    Vinz also brings up some good points on the trigger of events from site testing. A site owner settable note or flag could be a possible solution. The site could post a testing or station owner initiated shutdown. Being able to use a meta data flag to filter results could be useful.

    Due to sparse coverage in some areas, a 500 km circle may not always work. As well locations normally downwind versus upwind from reactors should be considered.

    I would love to be notified when any site changes by a set amount or goes offline as a minimum with set points added latter. A settable areas or other features could be added latter.

    Now some user groups let the user select to be notified of each change, or allow daily email updates…..

    I love an hourly text update of just stations that go up by a set value which I hope is not too often.

    Just an idea, we could possibly use IFTTT. (If This Then That)

    It is a site/app that you join and setup trigger based events. There are dozens/hundreds of applications currently supported and they have the ability for you to code custom devices and events. So you could potentially setup a rule that says.. (If monitor has no response > 5hr) then (send text/tweet to this account/phone). The good thing is, we don’t have to have any firmware updates or revisions to the existing device.

    I agree with Wiretap – IFTTT integration would be fantastic feature for the network. I’ve thought about this before.

    When the network detects “global meltdown” I want to be able to have it automatically adjust my Nest Thermostat on my Air Conditioning to something more comfortable 🙂
